Christmas Lunch

After the success of last year, it was not a big surprise when we once again opened up the doors of St Stephens to anyone who wanted to join us for Christmas lunch.

As with last time, there was a good mix of regular members of the church family, along with friends from the local area and beyond. We were treated to starters of French toast with pate and humous, a main course of turkey and full trimmings (including cabbage and sprouts, for those who insist on eating them...) and Christmas pudding to follow.

All this was accompanied by a generous supply of wine, fruit punch and Christmas music. I am sure this will be happening again next year, so if you missed out this time, put it in the diary.

Cafe 2nd Birthday

The Thursday morning Community Cafe is now 2 years old. Over this time we have served countless cooked breakfasts, bacon sandwiches, cups of coffee and toasted teacakes to the many people who have dropped in on us. We have met many new people and welcomed back our regulars each week.

This Sunday, to celebrate this event (and to look forward to many more years to come), we ran cafe instead of our usual morning service.

Our church family was joined by many familiar faces from the cafe, as well as friends and family from further afield. The usual Thursday menu was supplemented by a beautifully-decorated birthday cake (complete with an iced fried breakfast), as well as a number of thoughtful prayer stations, some live music and Godly Play stories.

In the end we served over 50 fried breakfasts (not including bacon sandwiches, cereals and teacakes) and there was a great atmosphere about the place. Hopefully this won't be the last time that we get together like this...
